Catherine “Josephine” Jones-Thomas daughter of the late Thomas and Daisy McNeil born June 16, 1926 in Cordesville, S.C.
On Friday, May 25, 2018 she heard her name called to come home “You’ve earned your crown.”
At an early age, Catherine attended St. Luke A.M. E Church in Cordesville, S.C. She attended Berkeley High School. Catherine relocated to the Bronx, NY. She settled down and became employed as a seamstress for the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union (ILGWU). After the garment district business began to decline; she moved to Harlem NY. Catherine gained employment as a home health aid for FEGS until she retired.
Catherine joined Bethel A.M.E Church in 1972 where she served faithfully. She was a member of the Gospel Choir, Janie B Fortune Women’s Missionary Society and the Senior Stewardess Board.
Catherine loved listening to music and dancing. She was a fabulous southern cook. She spent a lot of quiet time reading God’s word. She encouraged her family to trust in the Lord, always pray and attend church.
She was preceded in death by one daughter Tania McNeil Giles; four brothers Johnny, Julius, Andrew, and James Peter “JP”; and one sister Bertha.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband Willie Thomas (N.Y.); two daughters; Sharon Jones and Robin Jones (N.Y); one son Sean Alexander (N.Y); six grandsons; six granddaughters; eight great-grandsons; three great granddaughters; one great-great granddaughter; two brothers Oscar McNeil (Brockton, M.A.), and James McNeil (Dorothy) (Queens, N.Y.); one sister Daisy Simmons (Queens, N.Y.); two sisters-in-law, Clara Dean McNeil (N.C.), Annie Mae McNeil (S.C.) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
