Biography: The Lord at an early age and was baptized at Peaceful Tabernacle Baptist Church. He attended school in Halifax County,
Virginia. He worked at US Plywood, JP Stevens and as a landscaper in Maryland. He then moved to New York where he had resided ever since. After coming to New York, Raleigh got a job working for Breyer’s Ice Cream.
 
In 1985, he met Petronella Glanton and they were together until his death. Raleigh had a very kind and generous heart. He didn't mind sharing or helping those in need. He was known as “the life of the party”. He was an awesome storyteller. Putting a smile on other’s faces brought him joy.
 
He leaves to cherish loving memories: his beloved Patronella; four step-children: Sandra of Atlanta, Georgia, Oscar, Teisah and Lynette of Harlem, New York; seven grandchildren: Vionda, Ophelia, Shaneil, Amber, Autumn, Latrell and Ismael; seven great-grandchildren: Ziara,Tamari, Jaheni, Zac, Madiyson, E.J. and Ethan; one brother: Moses McCargo, Jr. of Scottsburg, Virginia; two sisters and brothers-in-law:

Gloria Powell (James) of Stafford, Virginia and Wanda Vaughn (Byron) of Clover, Virginia. He also leaves two aunts: Joanna Herbert and Thalia McCargo; five nieces: Akia Harper (James), Kimberly Martin, Ashley Humbles (Austin), Danielle Vaughn and Javona Powell; one nephew Derek Vaughn; five great nephews: Joshua Harper, Jonathan Harper, Austin Humbles, Christian Humbles and Benjamin Powell; two great nieces: Kailah Haper and Lailah Harper. He also leaves his faitful and beloved cousins: The Edmond Brothers, Major, Charles, Fred and Ricky of New York and a host of other family and friends.
