A Time to Be Born
Marshall was born in Harlem, on August 31,1938 to Mary and Nathaniel Keeling, Sr. He was the youngest of four children. Even though he was a lifelong New Yorker, he still took pride in his Virginia roots.
A Time to Love
On January 24th, 1970 Marshall married the love of his life, Loretta. They shared a loving happy marriage which produced two children, Kristine and Keith. Marshall was a lover of jazz and amassed a huge collection of the
genre. He made being a handy man an art. He was called by his family the “Black Bob Villa”. Many a relative would invite him over hoping a repair or home improvement project could be finished by him. Upon retirement he
decided to become an amateur golfer.
A Time to Build
In 1956 he graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and enlisted in the Air Force. After being honorably discharged he attended City College of New York. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked at New York Telephone Company, now known as Verizon for 32 years as an engineer. Marshall took great pride in his family. He attended his family reunions religiously and for several years was on the planning committee. In 1963 he attended the March on Washington. Throughout his life he practiced social responsibility. He was the president of the Audubon Homeowners Association and was very active in several other community organizations.
A Time to Rest
Marshall suffered from neurological conditions in his later years which caused him to lose his balance, at times. On August 2, 2018, he sustained a fall with injury followed by multiple medical complications. He was finally called home on September 12, 2018. He leaves to mourn, his wife Loretta, children Kristine and Keith, siblings Lucretia Middleton, Jewel Kennebrew, Nathaniel Keeling, Jr., and his sister-in-law, Sandra Ashcraft. Along with a host of nephews and nieces, cousins, god children, adoptive children and friends.
