Chelsea Renee Stewart

10-18-1993 - 10-04-2018

Biography:
Chelsea Renee Stewart was born on October 18, 1993, in New York, New York to parents Margret Groves and Hayward Stewart, Jr.  She grew up in Harlem with her brother and sister where she attended elementary school P.S. 28, until transferring to Mickey Mantle Elementary School. Chelsea celebrated her graduation and would enter I.S. 90.

Chelsea’s dreams of becoming a fashion designer led her to attend Fashion Industries High School, although with her height and slim stature, many of her teachers encouraged her to pursue modeling.  She always had a passion for reading and writing poetry.
Chelsea was a “Striver” at Phase Piggy Back Youth Intervention and Development Program where she was first exposed to the principles of Total Community Involvement. She would further development these principles as a part of the Sledge Group’s, “Sistas United”, where she met and was nurtured by her mentor, Cynthia Moore.  At the Sledge Group, she performed community service by participating in activities such as feeding the homeless for Thanksgiving and giving toys and clothing to families living in shelters.  Chelsea always said she enjoyed seeing the children’s faces when they received their toys.

In February 2011, Chelsea became a mother to Nia-Simone and enjoyed her relationship with her daughter whom she affectionately called, “Fat Gurl.”  When Chelsea began to face some of life’s challenges, she turned to Greenhope Services for Women for guidance and assistance.  Her feisty spirit and playful nature made Chelsea a beloved member of their family.  She also was taken under the wing of a whole fellowship, particularly, “It Can Be Done” where her voracious appetite for food was lovingly satisfied by Anthony A. and she adopted a friend and mentor, Suzette Richardson, with whom Chelsea would enjoy “girl time.”

Chelsea was working toward obtaining her GED to gain employment and provide a better life for her and her children prior to her untimely departure.  Chelsea was granted her wings and taken into God’s care on October 4, 2018.  Chelsea will always be remembered for her big, infectious smile; crazy laugh and booming loud voice.  Her family will always remember her for her gentle childlike nature and her love of her family.  To know to her was to love her!

Chelsea leaves to treasure her memory her loving devoted mother, Margret Groves; stepfather, John Hamilton, whom she affectionately called, “Bus Driver”; Three children Nia-Simone, Kaden and Hayley-Renee; sisters Marjorie Stewart, Sharon Stewart, Hayley Groves and Mia Miller; brothers, Hayward “Haylo” Stewart and Damen Groves; Niece, Imani Renee; Her Aunt/Godmother Corliss Baskerville and her husband Silas Baskerville; Wanda Moret, who she affectionately called "Aunt Ti-Ti”; Uncle Willie Stewart; Godmother, Sonia Renee Stewart, Cousins, Curtis Groves, Ronald “Ronnie” E. Smith II, Tyrell and Tyrone Stewart, Richard “Big Daddy” Stewart, Malcolm Stewart; her twin Ivy and a host of other relatives, friends and loved ones.

Dear family and loved ones, I was sorry to hear about the passing of Chelsea. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. It has helped me and many others to know that the Bible promises that soon God “will swallow up death forever” (Isaiah 25:8) and that He will bring about a resurrection of our dear loved ones (John 5 : 28, 29) . May “the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort,” comfort you during your time of sadness (2 Corinthians 1: 3).
