Biography: John Howard Lewis Jr. was born on October 24, 1946 at Harlem Hospital. Howard was the first child of Marguerite Campbell Lewis and John Howard Lewis Sr.
 
Howard attended P.S. 133, 197, JHS 139—Frederick Douglass and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1964. Howard entered the U.S. Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam for one year. His DD214 shows that he received the Bronze Star Medal. Due to his excellent service he became a Specialist 5th Class.
 
After his military service, he later received an Associate’s Degree. He also worked as a Correctional Officer and later worked for the Department of Justice for about 18 years.
 
In 1978, Howard and his wife Sandra became the proud parents of John Howard Lewis III.  Preceding Howard in death are his father John Howard Lewis Sr. and wife Sandra.
 
Howard is survived by: his loving mother Marguerite who is 102 years old; son John and daughter-in-law Swadija; granddaughter Kaetlyn; sister Barbara Ann; niece Batista Ann; grandnephew Ajani Elijah; and a host of other relatives and friends.
