Biography: John Charles Davis was born in New York City on February 7, 1926 to John Davis and Agnes Carter. He attended P.S. 58 and Central Commercial High School in New York. In June 1944, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he travelled the world while serving in the Asiatic Pacific Arena until 1946 when he was honorably discharged.

In January 1948, he married Lucille Brown and together, they raised two children, Agnes and Michael. They remained happily married until her death in November 1970. In June 1975, John married Florence Slater and settled in Brooklyn where they lived until his passing. He loved to travel and together they vacationed in the Caribbean and within the United States.
 
John, also known as “Chuck’” or “Tootsie”, worked for the Carlton Paper Company until his retirement in 1991. he was a dapper dresser, an excellent dancer and was a devout boxing fan, at times sparring with the fighters at local gyms. He loved to sing and had a great voice. Neighbors could hear  his pleasant tones as he entered the hallway of his apartment building in the evening. Jazz and big band sounds were among his favorites.

John was devoted to his family and leaves to honor his memory: his wife Florence; daughter Agnes Jones; son Michael David (Stephanie); goddaughters: Percy Palmer, Jourdan Jones and Lishon Perry; stepsons: William Simmons and Arthur Ryan; grandsons, Johron Jones (Hanan) and Christopher Davis; granddaughters, Kaleah Cantrell (Akeem) and Samantha Davis; great-grandchildren, Janaan and Matthew Jones; and a lifelong friend, George Pitts.
