Biography: Samuel Gerard Thomas, son of the late Lawrence Leonard Thomas and the late Queen Elizabeth Thomas, was born on November 5, 1964 in the city of Brooklyn. Sam affectionately known as “BiggSam” was called home to rest on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in Bronx, New York.
Sam attended P.S. 17 in Brooklyn, New York; then moved to the Boogie Down Bronx in 1971. He then attended CES 55, JHS Diana Sands 147 and Alfred E. Smith High School. As an adult Sam worked as a security guard, a manager at Pathmark and later he held an overnight position at Kmart.
In the early 70’s Sam and Pam met and were childhood sweethearts; they lived in the same building (1408 THE RENT BUILDING) and went to the same elementary and Junior High School. They had a long-lasting friendship, which eventually developed into a romantic relationship. They were inseparable, whenever you saw Sam, Pam was right by his side and vice-versa. Their relationship developed into a 40 year lifelong partnership.
Sam was the youngest male of eight children. He loved to make people laugh and he loved to laugh. Sam’s favorite television show was the Honeymooners. He loved, loved, loved basketball and the New York Knicks. He also enjoyed football and some baseball. Most of all, Sam loved his family and valued his friendships. Just to mention a few of his closest friends and brothers: Greg and Myron Rivers, Richard Gerard Washington, Larry Bunch (Flavor) Tom, Devine, Eric and Eric, Reginald, the late Mike from the 5th floor, the late Beau Dickens from the 11th floor and a host of others. Bigg sam was preceded in death by both his parents, Lawrence and Queen Thomas.
Sam leaves to cherish: his beloved wife: Pamela Owens; father-in-law Robert Owens; mother-in-law Neomia Owens; sisters-in-law: Denise Generette, Janet Owens and Sylvia Brown; brothers-in-law: Robert Brown, Michael Brown, Kenneth Generette, Joseph Poole and Brian Cody; stepmother, Gladys Kelsoe; brother, Lawrence (Larry) Thomas; sisters: Leatrice (Lee) Perkins, Lauren Thomas, Vida Thomas, Queennasira Sekou (previously known as Carla Thomas), Pricilla Poole and Deborah Kelsoe; nephews: Clarence, Lionel, Jaden, Jordon, Jerrell, Tyshaun and Kenneth; nieces: Shonda, Charnise, Tyreen, Nakia, Jasmine, Lauren (Nay Nay) and Kianna Generette; and a host of grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins, loved ones and friends.
