Biography: Joseph Henry Deacon Sr. was born on April 2, 1945 in New York City to the late David and Nannie Deacon. Joseph departed this life on December 6, 2018 at 3:25PM at Montefiore Hospital in Bronx, New York.

He received his education in the city public schools in New York City. Joseph confessed Christ at an early age, Joseph was a faithful member of The Ebenezer Baptist Church until his health declined. Joseph loved the Lord and fought until God called him home.
Joseph met and married Hazel H. Smithers on August 28, 1971 and from this union was born Joseph Henry Deacon Jr.
Joseph, also known as “Big Joe, was a friendly, loving, caring, devoted husband and father.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife Hazel and his son Joseph Henry Jr, of New York; grandson, Jovada Deacon of Brooklyn, New York; granddaughter, Danisha Sass and great-grandson, Aiden Sass of Brooklyn, New York; niece, Nanette Grays of New York, New York; great-nieces and godchildren: Christina and Alexis McPherson of New York; three sisters-in-law: Elrine Jones of Hanover, Virginia; Maxine Greene of Tappahannock, Virginia; Dorothy Smithers of Washington, D.C.; six brothers-in-law: Samuel Smithers (Roselle) of Montpelier, Virginia, Charles Smithers of Richmond, Virginia, Lewis Smithers (Adele) of Rutherglen, Virginia, James Smithers of Spartsburg, Virginia, Alfred Smithers of Hanover, Virginia, James Tunstall of Ashland, Virginia; a special uncle, Alvin Peterson of Rochester, New York; and a host of other family and friends.
