 Helen L. Thomas McKoy was born on April 18, 1941, in Shannon, North Carolina to the late Dock L. Thomas and Estella J. Thomas. Helen departed this life peacefully on Friday morning December 21, 2018. She was the oldest of ten children and received her education in Hoke County School System, Raeford, North Carolina.
Helen was united in Holy matrimony to Weldon McKoy, Sr. on December 27, 1959 and to this union five lovely children were born. He preceded her in death along with one child Devin McKoy, two brothers James "Pete" Thomas and Dock L. "Plug" Thomas Jr. and one sister Eleanor F. Hailey.
Helen was employed at Bellevue Hospital as a Nurse's Aide for 28 years, retiring in 2000. Helen also served as a member of the Eastern Star Naomi Chapter No 5 in New York. Helen was also best known for kind spirit, always willing to help others and her talents in the kitchen along with her famous "Mommy Pound Cake".
Helen leaves to cherish her loving memories daughter, Barbara A. McKoy of Cromwell, CT; three sons, Garry McKoy of Middlefield, CT; Weldon McKoy Jr. (Jeanette), New Haven, CT; Marcus McKoy, Middletown, CT; one son she raised, Harry Black, NY, NY; four granddaughers, Lashelle K. McKoy, Daisha McKoy, Gianna R. Sutcliffe and Maliyah J. McKoy all of Middletown, CT; one great grandson, Elias J. Bazzle of Middletown, CT; four sisters, Margaret McLean-Hollingsworth (Daries) Fayetteville, NC; Lorene McLean (John), Shannon, NC; Patricia Thomas, Raeford, NC and Jamesena Graham (Tony), Raeford, NC; two brothers, Lindbergh Thomas (Betty) Greensboro, NC and Alfonza Thomas (Ness), South Korea; one brother in law, Thomas McKoy, Bronx, NY; six sister in laws, Mary Thomas, Bronx, NY; Ruth Franklin, Bronx, NY; Evelyn Mungin, E. Stroudsburg, PA; Earlene Moore, NY, NY; Sally Akers, Concord, NC; and Mary E. Thomas, Florence, SC; lifetime friends Dorothy L. Williams, Springfield Gardens, NY; Ellen D. Claxton, Wyandanch, NY; and Mattie Sledge, Charlotte, NC; two godsons Michael Moore and Gregory Thomas; three goddaughters, Denise Tisdale, Tammi Sledge and Christel Bryant and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
