Biography: Thelma Hayes Mitchell was born on June 26, 1937. She was the second child of Mary Levy and Johnny Wheeler Mitchell.
Thelma was a great daughter and sister. She was often referred to as Big Sis because she had such a fierce and take charge personality. She was a champion of the underdog and a strong advocate for children as she could not abide injustice or cruelty to anyone or anything.
She was always putting family first, devoting her life to family and faith. As a devout Jehovah Witness she enjoyed spreading the word. There were many she took under her wing and into her heart. She could always be counted on if anyone needed her help. She shared her knowledge and wisdom with all who asked and needed her council because she cared.
She was affectionately called Mama T because she was like another mother to us. She truly cherished and embraced this responsibility and loved all her nieces and nephews with all her heart.
Aunt Thelma (Mama T) enjoyed shopping, a good meal and spending time with family and friends. She was a kind and generous person who will be mourned and missed by all who knew her. We were blessed and fortunate to have her in our life—she was our Mama T.
