Biography: Susan Phidd Baird, was born on March 24, 1930 to parents,Trefusus Adolphus Phidd and Juliet Victoria (nee Francis) of Morant Bay, St. Thomas, Jamaica, West Indies. She was educated at Excelsior High School in Kingston, Jamaica.
 
She emigrated to the United States in 1950, where she enrolled in fashion design school but later switched to earn her lab blood technician certificate.
 
Susan married her beloved husband, Charles Graham Baird in 1957 and they spent 43 years together between New York, Teaneck, New Jersey and Ocala, Florida.
 
In 1995, Susan retired from the Harlem Hospital Center after many years of service in the blood lab department. Miss Susie was well known “Mayor of 119th Street” and cherished throughout the Harlem community. Susan was akin to a family membered adopted Granny, to all the neighbors.
 
She could be intransigent and irascible, but she was kind and loving—she loved dancing, music, children, dogs and cats. She will be sorely missed by so many.
 
Survivors include: brothers, Kelvin, Winston and Richard; sisters,Hyacinth, Ivy and Dorrett and over twenty-eight nieces and nephews including: Rosanna, Kathleen, Ann-Marie, Michael, Karena, Nadia and Richard.
