Irvine Alonzo Clarke, back home affectionately known as “Basie”, was born on October 10, 1932 to the late Evangeline “Nellie” Clarke and Seibert Clarke in Christ Church, Barbados. He was the youngest of three brothers and two sisters, Oswald, Ivan, Lionel “Van”, Leotta and Anita; all of whom preceded him in death. He spent his childhood years in Fairy Valley, Christ Church, Barbados and later moved to New York City.
He resided in Harlem where he met Barbara Fields. On February 4, 1961 they married and from this union came one daughter Rhonda. Irvine worked for a taxi company and then for Verizon until retirement. He was a dedicated worker and
wonderful provider for his family. When he visited Barbados, because they knew the kindness of his heart, family and friends looked forward to him bringing them gifts from the U.S. Irvine would do anything for you without hesitation.
Irvine leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 56 years, Barbara Clarke, his daughter Rhonda Clarke, his grandsons,
Kendell Benson and Korey Benson, great grandson, Kaden Benson, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
