Biography: Sergeant 1st Class Samuel Bernard Jones died Sunday, March 24, 2019 following a battle with cancer.
 
Samuel was born in Richmond, Virginia on May 20, 1951, the third and last child of the late Samuel B. Jones and Erma Cole Jones. After graduating from Monroe High School in 1970, Samuel attended Bronx Community College Work Study Program. Realizing that college was not for him, Samuel joined the National Guard.
 
Samuel dedicated his life to the military. After he completed his term with the National Guard, Samuel was able to obtain employment at 369 Armory as a supply clerk. He worked his way up the ranks to become Sergeant First Class. Due to medical issues, Samuel retired from his military career in 2001.
 
Samuel is survived by: his wife, Shelia Smith Jones; out of this union, Samuel and Sheila had two sons: Sharod B. Jones and Sharif B. Jones; two sisters: Ruth Marie Stowe and Ellen Jones Payne; one stepsister, Sharon Johnson Wilson; two grandchildren: Alteara Sharod Higgins Jones and Sharod Bernard Jones, Jr.
 
Mourning with his immediate family are a host of in-laws, other relatives, former co-workers and friends whose lives Samuel Bernard had touched.
