Margaret Louise Joyner

06-23-1945 - 04-03-2019

Biography: Margaret Viola Cobb, daughter of proud parents Mary Elizabeth Pratt and James William Robert Pratt, was born on June 23, 1945 at Flowers Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York City. After a long illness, she departed this earth on April 3, 2019.

Margaret, known to most as “A”, was the third of four children. Two preceded her in death: Minnie Rebecca and Mamie Olivia her twin known as “B”. Mary was the surviving sibling.

Margaret received her early religious training in the United States House of Prayer here in New York City and as an adult also attended various Baptist Churches. Her favorite scripture was John 14:1-4.

She met Julius Eugene Cobb, Sr. which later resulted in their marriage on September 11, 1966. Margaret had five children: Mamie, Julius, Melvin Lamont (deceased), Yolonda and her youngest child Shirley.

She attended New York City Public Schools and as an adult worked in the school system. In 2006 “A” retired from the New York City Board of Education after many years of service. There, she was a member of the DC37 and local 372.

Though quiet and small in stature but feisty and outspoken when necessary; there is no doubt that she was a woman of faith and loved God. She had a big heart full of love that was demonstrated so often when she opened her home to many relatives during their time of need. She was loved by many. Never a stran ger to others because she talked to you or listened to you as if she had known you your whole life. Wheter family or friends, she gave any help or comfort she could give.

Margaret, with a sense of humor and warm smile, was well liked in her community. She was a member of Union Avenue Sout Bronx Senior Services Center where she enjoyed making new friends with fellow seniors, playing bingo, creating arts and crafts and taking trips to Atlantic City.

“A” touched many lives and will be missed dearly. She leaves to mourn: her husband Julius Eugene Cobb, Sr. and four children: Mamie Ophelia Cobb, Julius Eugene Cobb, Jr. (Yvette), Yolonda Cobb, all of the Bronx, New York and Shirley Senior (Anthony) of Roswell, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Natasha McCants, Quasona Cobb, Ingrid Cobb, Ashanti Cobb, Armani Dill, Ariell Dill, Anthony (Jacob) Dill, all affectionately known as “Mema Boonies”; five great-grandchildren: Josiah McCants, Yadira Pena, Michael Oliver, Anaya Pena and Asa Asante; her sisters Mary E. Caldwell (James Thomas) and Dawn Watson; brothers-in-law: Melvin Cobb and Jimmy Cobb of Charleston, South Carolina, Leon Cobb (Isabel) of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and many other relatives and friends.
