Biography: Andrew H Lampkins passed into the Lord’s keeping July 3, 2019. He was born August 25, 1940 in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from Blount High School in 1960.
He made a decision to enlist in for active duty in the United States Army 1960 to avail himself for opportunity for a better life. During a deployment to the Republic of Panama, he met the love of his life; Sofia Ortiz. He served 4 years, then retired, enrolled to become NYC Police officer, a role he performed with distinction for 20 years before retiring. He’d also enlisted for service in the National Guard and achieved the rank of 1st Sergeant while he was a police officer.
After 4 months of courtship Andrew and Sofia entered into matrimony which lasted 58 years. This union produced three children: Andy , Amanda and Anita. From his children he was blessed with five grandchildren; Ivory, Chetara, Maya, Tyler and two great grandchildren, Neveah and Blessed.
Throughout his roles, he was a mentor to all he met, especially the younger generation. He provided them with the wisdom and encouraged them be smart to achieve a better future for themselves. He also had a code of honor which he held to the end and tried to pass on. He was also a jokester, telling the corniest silliest jokes that made people laugh
nevertheless.
Andrew Lampkins was a man for whom family came first at all times. He was always in the protector mode especially with “his girls”. He was good with saying to any guy, he was locked and loaded. His wife Sofia was his Queen and there was nothing he would not do for her.
Both he and Sofia found an even better path when they joined First Corinthian Baptist Church. They became part of the Fish and Loaves Ministry to serve the community. He also sold Bibles alongside his wife for 10 years. Within this community they gained new “daughters and sons”. Andrew and Sofia lent their wisdom to this generation endearing themselves with their unselfishness in distributing love and kindness.
Andrew is preceded in death by his parents Effie and Maddie Lampkin, his brothers JC Lampkin, Effie Lampkin Jr, John Edward Lampkin and sister Emily Lampkin. He survived by his wife Sofia, his children Andy, Amanda and Anita; grandchildren Ivory, Chetara, Maya, Tyler; great grandchildren Neveah, Blessed; his sisters Bobbie Ruth and Azella as well as many nieces and nephews.
