Biography: Pearl Lucinda Jones entered this life on July 30, 1943, to the proud parents, of the late Leroy Robinson, and the late, Lucille Smith, in Harlem, New York. She was the second oldest of five children. At the age of two, she lived with and was nurtured by her Grandmother, Carrie Smith until her death in 1957.
Pearl met and married Donald Jones, in November 1960. from this union four beautiful children were born: Donald, Susan, Joyce and Lisa. They were later divorced. Pearl resumed her education after completing her G.E.D. She went on to pursue her degree at LaGuardia Community College with an Associate’s in Childhood Education, graduating in 1995.
Affectionately, known as “Mama Jones”, “Mom”, “Mrs. Jones”, “Gamma”, “Grandma”. Pearl loved unconditionally and unselfish. Her love and compassion for people included family, friends and neighbors alike. Regardless of how you came to know her, you could expect a honest opinion, an encouraging word, and a helping hand. No matter what the situation was, Pearl had the words to soothe your soul, and the hugs and kisses to make you whole.
Pearl dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She joyfully raised her children as a single parent and extended herself to friends of her children. Everyone loved “Mrs. Jones”. Her legacy of love will never end.
She was commonly known to leave messages on your phone ending with “sending you hugs, kisses and feel good tickles”.
She loved serving GOD and she loved serving her church. Pearl was a dedicated and longtime member of Astoria Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Bobby Moore. She served as a faithful member and participated in many functions of the church including: Sanctuary Beautification, Children’s Church, Choir and Praise Dance Ministry. She graduated from Urbacad and participated in several bible study courses. Her signature gift and talent was the lapel flower pins for Father’s Day, and the f lower writing pens for Mother’s Day.
We all love Pearl, but unmistakably GOD loved her best. On March 4, 2020, GOD called His daughter home to glory.
She was preceded in death by her sister Gail Mungin.
She leaves loving memories to her four children: Donald (Tara), Susan, Joyce (Steven), and Lisa; eight grandchildren: Quintin (Tenisha), George (Kameeka), Quiana, Zenden, Mallorie, Miles, Dasan, Shaliya and Autumn; six great-grandchildren: Nalah, Asiah, Quintin Jr., Nariah, Victoria, Jaiden and Goldyn Rae; special nephew, Ronald Clarke; two brothers, Beloved Thomas Clarke (Rose) and Barney Mungin; one sister, Lynn Mungin; Nike Jones (loving family cat, short hair Tabby) and a host of family and friends.
