Biography: Carl Donald Shephard was born in Beaufort, South Carolina to the late Evelyn York.He attended and graduated from Robert Smalls High School.  After graduation, he relocated to New York City, where he became employed with the Police Department briefly before changing over to the New York City Department of Corrections.  Carl retired from there after twenty-one years of service.
 
Later in life, he met Shirley Caldwell, which resulted in forty-six years of marriage and two children came from this union.
 
“Donald” as he was fondly called, loved reading the Bible and the Daily newspaper.  He was a sports fanatic and especially enjoyed playing softball.  His favorite team was the Yankees and the Jets for football.
 
He touched many lives and was loved by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his oldest child, Valencia Shephard.
 
Donald leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Shirley Shephard; his two daughters, Kiamesha Reid and Kersten Shephard; one son, Dondre’ Shephard (Abigail);  eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Callahan (Charles) and Ethel Dunbar of Beaufort, South Carolina; one brother, Alphonso Shephard of New York; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Thomas (Roberta) and Michael Thomas (Regina) of New York; three sisters-in-law, Frances Moore (George), Edith Murray (Sammie) of Pinewood, South Carolina and Yvonne Thomas of New York; a special aunt, Rosa Lee Washington of Beaufort, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
