Biography: Herbert Houston was the first born son of the late Peggy Lee Houston and
Herbert Fienell. He was born on August 5, 1963 in Clinton, North Carolina and was called to glory on August 19, 2020 in New York City. Herbert Houston was the first grandson of the late Etta Lee Houston.
Grandma Etta bought Herbert (Pumpkin) to New York City in 1963. Herbert graduated from I.S. 182 High School in the Bronx. He moved back to Harlem where he worked numerous jobs on 125th Street. Herbert was a hard worker with a great smile and a magnificent personality. Herbert had a heart of gold, he was one of the happiest people you would ever want to meet. He loved everybody no matter how they treated him, he loved doing errands in his spare time for the elderly. And he always said, “I Love You”.
Herbert was blessed with one daughter, Peggy, who he loved dearly.
Pumpkin enjoyed dancing and eating. If you said “Go Pumpkin!” and music was playing, he would put on a show for you. As a kid, he would be in all the dance contests that the PAL had his passion was music, food and family. He had a special bond with his sister Tiny. If you needed anything, he’d tell you, go ask my sister, its whatever she says goes.
Herbert attended Salvation and Deliverance Church where he gave his heart to God.
Herbert was preceded in death by: his mother, Peggy Houston, his grandmother Etta Lee Houston, uncle Ed Houston and Charlie Houston, uncle-in-law Walter Miller, and aunt Cynthia Houston Bess.
Cherishing his memory he leaves: his daughter, Peggy Washington and grandson, Preston Washington; two sisters: Etta Houston Johnson and Josephine Teal; three brothers: James Houston, Craig Miller, Steven King; two sisters-in-law: Shawana Miller and Jessica Houston; twenty-one nieces and nephews: Shaneikwa Williams, Shakeya Malave, James L. Houston, Samuel Miller, Nefertiti Capers, Elijah Houston, Danasia Gilyard, David Gilyard, Jr. , Daquan Teal , Valreisha Houston, Darian Craig, Craig Miller, Jr., Craig Williams, Lil Craig Miller, Jada Miller, Harmonee King; nephews-in-law Charles Williams; niece-in-law Crystal Herbert Houston; thirteen great-nieces and nephews, eighty-one cousins, three aunts: Annie Miller, Betty Houston and Monica Patterson; two uncles : Benjamin Houston and James Bess all from New York City.
Herbert was loved by everyone he came in contact with.
