Marian Corbett

Marian Corbett

04-17-1937 - 12-14-2017

Biography: Marian Corbett was born to the late Pauline Bennett Green and Floyd Green in Sellers, South Carolina on April 17, 1937.  Later on, Marian's parents moved and Marian and sister Ann resided to Wilmington, North Carolina to be with their late grandmother, Mrs. Jamie Bennett.

Marian was baptized at an early age at the First Baptist Church in Wilmington, North Carolina. Marian met and married the late John Robert Corbett, from that union they had: Brenda, Sharon (preceded in death), Sheila, John, Larenzo (preceded in death), Shone (preceded in death) and LaShone.  In the late 60’s, she moved to New York City.  She had a zest for life and fervent love for people; especially her family.  She was out going, sociable and outspoken.  She loved to cook and crochet with her children.  She was affectionately known to her family and friends as “Mill.”  She had a free spirit that loved to laugh and to spread that laughter around.

Marian was no stranger to hard work either.  For the past 35 years, she worked as a Geriatric Social Worker and a Community Advocate for the   Senior Citizens.  In the early 80’s, Marian became active in the Community School Board #5 and was also President of the PTA at Public School P.S. 92.

Marian retired and as time passed, she gave her life to God.  She joined    Shiloh Baptist Church in 1999.  Marian was proud of her church and church family.  Every Sunday, she bragged about her Sunday School classes and what she learned from her Pastor, Reverend Sampson.  What she learned in church that Sunday, is what she came home and shared with us, including the songs and scriptures.  Her goal and vision was to have her entire family join Shiloh Baptist Church, in which, most of us did.  Marian loved the Lord with all her heart and made her children love and know the spirit as well.

On Thursday, December 14, 2017, God called Marian home for eternal rest.  Marian leaves to cherish her memories: one son, John; three daughters, Brenda, Shelia and LaShone; fifteen grandchildren; one sister, Ann; one nephew, William; one niece, Cassandra; and along with a host of great grandchildren (too many to name), other family and friends.
