Biography: Annie Lee Laval Burney entered eternal rest on Friday, July 29, 2021, at approximately 6am in Mohegan Lake, NY. Annie was born on October 5, 1929, to the late Lena Oliver Laval and William Laval Sr. Annie was the youngest of six girls and six brothers. She attended the public schools of Orangeburg, South Carolina, and she received her GED in New York City.
Annie accepted Christ at an early age at Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Eutawville, South Carolina where she was baptized by the late Rev James Ravenel. Annie relocated to NYC in 1948 to live with her older sis Mrs. Tena Collins. Annie was employed at Mount Sinai Hospital as a Dietary Aide for 45 years and retired from there. She loved by the doctors, nurses, and her coworkers and she always greeted them with a big smile.
Annie joined Southern Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev Dr. C.B. Wilson and brought her sisters Catherine Mack, Tena Collins, Marie Ravenel, and brother William Laval Jr. to southern Baptist. Annie joined the usher board of Southern Baptist and loved to serve on Sundays. She also loved traveling from church to church attending the usher's league anniversaries at multiple churches, sometimes two or three afternoon services. She was known in Southern Baptist Church for her dietary skills and flair with providing a proper table setting. Continued to serve. Under the leadership of Pastor Keith Robeson I.
On October 15, 1951, Leroy Burney and Annie Laval Burney were joined together in Holy Matrimony by Rev. Dr C.B. Wilson to that union. They were blessed with a daughter, Joyce Marie Burney.
Always the caregiver, over the years Annie took care of her mother, Lena, and her two sisters, Tena and Victoria Ida, until their passing.
Annie was not a driver but loved a road trip and loved to travel. Her nieces and especially her nephew, William Ravanel, will forever miss the stories of family history she impatted to them on these trips.
Annie was a champion for education loved learning and being in-the-know. She was proud to see her daughter and grandchildren graduate from college and her great-grandson who recently graduated High school this year.
Annie is survived by her daughter, Joyce Marie Burney-Sweeney , grandson, Taurean M. Sweeney, granddaughter, Shame' C. Sweeney, great-grandchildren Jamel Welborn-Sweeney and Jayeda Sweeney, a brother William Laval Jr. of Eutawville, SC a host of nephews and nieces and extended family and friends. Also, her special church friends Earlene Susie and Ora who loved her dearly.
Gone from our sights but never from our hearts. Mom, Grandma, we love you and will forever cherish the time we had you with us. Rest well.
