Biography: Willie Davis was born on November 15, 1943 in Alabama. He was born to Will and Eva B. Davis. Willie spent his early years in Elmore, Alabama and later moved to the Bronx section of New York City. It was his mother and father that instilled in him unwavering values and what it meant to be a man..
As a young man growing up, Willie obtained his formal education from Elmore High School in Alabama. His devotion to learning and inquisitive nature birthed him into a knowledgeable and well-rounded individual.
It was in New York City that Willie met the love of his life, the beautiful Alfair. The two dated for a while, and on November 25, 1968 they married. In their union they were blessed with four beautiful children, Chenique, Shannon, Lee, and Wilden. Chenique & Wilden preceded him in death.
Willie became and active part of the workplace. He worked in various retail places such as Ringles Printing Company and later moved on to do maintenance work with the New York City Housing Authority.
Willie was indeed a man that was well known throughout the Mott Haven Community and beyond. He was by nature a musician and there were many times that you would see Willie playing musical selections on his guitar. He was also avid about preserving nature and recycling became a past time hobby for him. He felt that it was his job to preserve the beautiful landscape that God had provided to us. Willie was also very comical. Everyone who knew him; knew that he loved to make people laugh. One of his favorite sayings was “Come over here with your Candy Self”.
Although Willie was not one who belonged to an official church home, he loved the Lord. This was seen in the manner in which he treated people and raised his children to reach out and be an instrument in the lives of others.
On Wednesday, February 28, 2018, the Lord looked upon His Servant of God. Our Gracious Father saw that Willie had done all that He had assigned for him to do and called him home to take his eternal rest. He gently whispered into his ear ”It Is Well”,. He leaves to mourn: one dedicated and heartbroken wife Alfair Davis, Bronx, New York. A devoted daughter and son Shannon and Lee Davis, Bronx New York, one son in law, Melvin Thomas, Bronx, New York,; six sisters, Susie (Daniel) Ward, New York, Edna (Hardy) Bell, Lula (Jimmy) Bell, Theresa Davis , all of Chicago, Catherine (David) Goodwin, of South Carolina, Sarah (Leroy) Manigault, SC; two brothers; Sylvester Davis, and Louis (Redd) Davis; one brother in law Leroy( Sarah) Manigault, South Carolina, Nora Spain, sister in law; grandchildren Darryl (Nicky) Davis, Darren, Jeremiah, Kashawn, LaShaye, Niaisha, Kareem, William, Ashley, Monteque, Nakita; great-grandchildren Tah-jae, Nylah, Major, Serenity, Emani, Synnovia, and a host of loving family and friends.
