Biography: Samuel Nesmith known to all as “PJ” was the son of the late Mr. Myers and Ellen Nesmith. He was born on May 21, 1932 in Nesmith, South Carolina. Sam took his flight to rest in peace on March 17, 2018 in St. Luke’s Hospital.
He lived a fruitful life and always believed in family first. Early in life he joined Friendship United Methodist Church in Nesmith, South Carolina. Shortly afterwards, he moved to New York city and joined the Little Widows Mite Baptist Church and served in many capacities. Later in Life he joined and maintained membership at Manhattan Baptist Church. He served in The United States Army and was a member of the Scottish Rite Masonic.
In 1955 Sam met and married the love of his life who proceeded him in death. Rosabell Nesmith. He was blessed to have enjoyed his 6 children for 85 years.
He leaves to cherish his memories his children Gregory Jones of Washington D.C.Ellen Knowlin (Steve) from S.C. Valerie Nesmith, Veronica Nesmith-Brown (Marvin) from NYC Samuel Ricky Nesmith (Joi) from VA and Phoebe Roxanne Lowery (Russell) from NYC One Sister– Marie Powell from Trenton NJ Grandchildren– Jerval (Kennise), Denard, Malakia, Lovell, Shayla, Ashley, Darmond, Russell and Lanise. Great Grandchildren– Jakim, Nazir, Malik and Legacy Great Great Granddaughter—Ja’liyah
Two Godsons– Norman Nesmith and Douglas Scott Thirty nieces and nephews who were like his own children Four sister in laws– Margaret Nesmith, Odessa Jones both of NYC Althea Ruffin of St. Thomas VI and Patricia Colon (Bill) of SC One Brother in law Wayne Jones (Tee) of Florida A special friend Dorothy Wright And a host of adopted grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
