Biography:
Evelyn Celestine Pennye was born March 24, 1953 in Georgetown, South Carolina, daughter of Melvin and Annie Mae Pennye. Evelyn was the oldest of four children. She attended Prospect Heights School in Brooklyn, New York. Every Summer she along with her other siblings were sent to Georgetown, South Carolina to stay with her grandmother.
Evelyn worked for the New York City Department of Social Services, A.C.S. Unit for more than thirty years where she retired.
After a brief illness, Evelyn was called home on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022. While many hearts are saddened by her loss, our lives are forever richer by all those who knew and loved her. In 2009 while at a picnic Evelyn met Vernon Harrell, and have been together until her death.
She was preceded in death by her mother Annie Mae, father Melvin and sister Melvina. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her son, Christopher Pennye; brother Quint Pennye; sister Larla Pennye,; grandsons: Christopher Jr. and Chase; partner: Vernon Harrell; aunts: Gertrude Jones and Maddie Smalls; uncles: George Jones (Barbara), Rezell Jones; nephews: Andre, Jamel (Doreen), Jemeel and Rashad; nieces: Monique Carlton; great grand nieces and nephews: Jamel Jr., Jayvon, Ashley, Marcus, Sharhonda, Taraji, Scarlett, Rashad Jr., Amarri, Jeremiah, Aziyah and RoyalRose; along with a host of cousins and friends.
