Biography:
Elgie L. Rumph was born on April 14, 1940 in New York City, New York. He was the son of Wilhelmina Owens Rumph and Isaiah Rumph. Elgie and his siblings were moved to South Carolina at a young age.
Elgie attended Orangeburg County Schools and graduated from Lockett High School, May 30, 1961, where he enjoyed playing the game of basketball. He enjoyed himself with the McBranch Baptist Church and was baptized at a young age. He was ordained into the Gospel Ministry in 1986 and served in that capacity for thirty years. He attended Morris College Extension School of Religion. He pastored Evergreen Baptist Church, Hutto Chapel Baptist Church, First
Baptist Church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Jericho Baptist Church. He served as moderator and vice moderator of the Mt. Zion Association. He was a firm believer and entrusted his life to God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit, the comforter. Elgie loved his family and friends and enjoyed getting out and visiting with them often.
He was predeceased by his Mother, Wilhelmina Owens Rumph, his Father Isaiah Rumph and his sister Leathia May Rumph Duley.
He is survived by his wife Annie Sue Williams Rumph, his 3 children, Anthony Rumph (Jonie) of Memphis,
Tennessee, Sebrina Rumph Collins (Kendall) of Branchville, SC and Carlose Rumph (Felicia) of Spartanburg, SC, his aunt Elizabeth Owens of Richmond, VA, his brother Isaiah Owens (Barbara) of Blackstone, VA, his sister in law
Brenda Williams Simmons (Nolan) of Smoaks, SC, his 12 grandchildren Antwan, Trevell, Syreeta Jaleel, Ian, Raven, Jabril, Akhira, Madinah, Malik, Emmanuel and Chanel and 8 great grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by his devoted nieces and nephews. Reverend Rumph will be missed by all who knew him, to know him was to love him.
