Biography: Annie Belle Stephens Rhodes was born on January 8, 1935. She was the youngest of Dudy and Bertha Stephens.
As a young girl she was raised in Ruffin, South Carolina. She graduated from Ruffin High School in 1953. She met and married the love of her life, James Leon Rhodes on December 5, 1956. She moved to New York City in 1961 where she worked for the VA hospital federal government and retired in 1994.
She lived in Harlem for over 60 years, where she was a beloved member of the community, and a second mother and grandmother to her grandkids and countless friends and family members. She loved to cook and whenever she cooked you ate and whoever you had with you ate as well. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dudy and Bertha Stephens, her husband James L. Rhodes, Her brother Thalmus Stephens, Sister Christine Allen, and three children Vanessa, Cheryl and Tony.
She leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters Angelika Hoffman of Frankfurt Germany, Shirley Blanding (Matthew) of New York, Jennifer Glover (Eric) of Walterboro, South Carolina, Wanda Wright of Silver Spring, Maryland and a nephew whom she helped raise Benjamin Seabrook of Walterboro, South Carolina. Ten grandkids, Anthony,
Brittiany, Brian, Daniel, Krishanda, Damon, Chanel, Eric Jr., Ke’Shawn and Erica, and eight great grands. She also leaves her beautiful oldest sister Emma Lee Seabrook of Walterboro, South Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews and family and friends.
