Biography: Mrs. Betty J. Gorham-Maye, 59, affectionately known as “Yackie,” answered the Master’s call on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, New York.  Betty J. Gorham-Mann was the daughter of the late Evelyn Waller and the late William Gorham. Betty was born on December 14, 1964, in Harlem, New York. Betty was educated in Public Schools in the Bronx, P. S.18, I.S.183, Evander Childs High School, and Lehman College, graduated from all. Betty was a long-time resident of Harlem, N.Y. and the Bronx, N.Y.

Betty was employed as a Direct Care Worker in 1988 at the Tiano Houses in Spanish Harlem. She left Tiano and began working at The Shield Institute in 1991as a Rehabilitation Specialist until 2007 when she became ill.

Betty’s Passion and Advocating for the Mentally Challenged and Physically Handicapped was challenging and rewarding. She loved making the less fortune lives of others a priority daily.
 
Betty is survived by her husband Rodney Mann, Five sisters; Debbie Maye (North Carolina), Crystal Douce (husband Oliver Douce) (Bronx), Pheobe Maye Collier (husband William Collier) (Queens), Sonia Maye (Bronx), Keisha Waller (North Carolina). A very special niece, Olivv Douce, three very special great nephews, Ocean, (and one who is referred to as her best friend) - Island, and River, Four Godchildren, Christopher Walton-Garner, Cyle Walton-Garner, Chloe Walton-McDaniel, Courtney Walton-McDaniel, and her neighbor who she referred to as her “baby” Deztini White.  Special Friends, Mrs. Hannah Walton-McDaniel, Felicia Reid, Marietta Camron, Vermalle Hamilton, Zarina Moore, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
