Elbert "Bobby" Walker

Biography: Elbert "Bobby" Walker peacefully departed this life on November 27, 2024 at Albert Einstein Hospital in Bronx, NY. He was born on June 8, 1938, in Charlotte County, VA, to the late Fred and Elizabeth Hill Walker. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond  and James Walker; his sisters, Lou Ella Potts, Clara Mae Walker, and Mildred Mayo.

Elbert leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, cherished by his devoted wife of many years, Annie Rose Walker, Bronx, NY; his loving daughter, Shaefon Freeman, Centereach, NY; his brother, Fred Walker (April), Brookneal, VA; sisters-in-law, Mary Walker, Appomattox, VA; Gwendolyn Bellamy, Katha Mae Bellamy and Adalene Fullwood, all of North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Elbert joined the Mt Zion Baptist Church at an early age. He moved from Virginia to New York City, where he built a career at General Galvanizing in the Bronx, retiring after many dedicated years of service. Fondly known as “Bobby,” he became a beloved figure both in his New York community and in his second home of Appomattox, VA.

For many years, Elbert and his  wife, Annie, hosted an annual summer gathering that became legendary, drawing hundreds of attendees from across the country. Family, friends, and even newcomers were welcomed with warmth, delicious food, and lively entertainment. These cherished events created lasting memories for all who attended.

Elbert’s favorite past-time was playing cards, a joy he shared with family and friends throughout his life. In his final months, he found new companionship at the Beatrice Senior Center in East Harlem, NY, where he delighted in card games and meaningful connections.

He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
