Reflections of the Life of Sister Roberta Ann White
Roberta Ann White, known affectionately by many names including: “My Baby Sister”, “Mommy”, “Grandma”, “Aunt B”, “Bobby”, “Bert”, was born on August 13, 1968. She shared a close bond with her sister, Diannie. Their deeply religious parents instilled in them the core value of Christianity and a strong understanding of God’s love. Roberta pursued her education through the public school system and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree from Touro College in New York City. Roberta served with distinction as a Case Manager and Housing Specialist at some of New York City's most vital homeless service organizations, including Willow's Men Shelter, Franklin Women's Shelter, Palada Inc., and Acacia Network. In each of these roles, she brought more than professional expertise —She listened when others felt unheard. She advocated when others felt invisible. She helped men and women navigate some of the most difficult seasons of their lives, connecting them with housing, resources, and the hope of a fresh start. The homeless society of New York City has lost one of its greatest champions. But the seeds she planted — of hope, of dignity, and of compassionate care — will continue to grow in the lives of all those she served. Roberta, you answered the call with joy and with grace. You gave your best to those who had the least. And for that, you will never be forgotten. Roberta Roberta's parents introduced her and her big sister Diannie to the church at a very young age, instilling in them a faith that would remain a cornerstone of her life. Roberta was a proud member of Greater Bethel AME, where she was baptized. She loved attending church and singing in the gospel choir alongside her big sister Diannie, and the two sisters always said they made a "joyful noise unto the Lord." Roberta also served as a devoted member of the Alice D. Lance Missionary Society and the Liturgical Dance Ministry, Sisters of Praise. Roberta was a loving and devoted mother who made sure her children’s birthdays were celebrated each year with family and friends. Outgoing and warm-hearted, she had a gift for bringing people together, and her holiday gatherings upstate were cherished traditions filled with laughter and love. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Henry and Bernice White, her granddaughter Imani, and her grandson Kyree In Loving Memory of Roberta On May 6th2026 Roberta peacefully made her transition, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
