Biography: Mary Sims Louise Bell Head Reid , affectionately known as “Mommy”, “Funny Face”, “Big Red” and “Mother Dear”, was born to Thelma Sims at Roper Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. She relocated to New York at the age of twelve.
Later in life, she was blessed with her loving children: Robert “Bobby” Davis, Rita, Delores, Gloria, Hazel, Shawn, Deborah and Earl. She fell in love with Coleridge Reid Jr. This union blessed them with their bonus children: Stephanie, Kevin, Joyce, Coleridge III, Anita, Khadeem Abdullah formally known as Demetris, Raymona, Rozzia, Shabazz and Christina. She remained unified to the late and great Coleridge Reid up until his passing.
Preceding her to God’s Kingdom are Gloria, Deborah, Shawn, Bobby, Rita and Mustafa.
Mommy was the Matriarch of our family. She was full of life, soft spoken but outspoken and demanded her respect! Mother Dear was everyone’s mother. Her door was always open. No matter what wrong doings anyone did or short comings anyone had, she forgave them and welcomed them in. She even treated her pets like they were children. She accepted everyone with open arms, a warm meal and a cozy bed to sleep in.
Mommy enjoyed her casino runs in her leisure time. On any day, you would see her with her scratch-offs, Coca-Cola and her spearmint gum. Big red was a woman of elegance and class! She was known for her exceptional style and exquisite taste. From head to toe, she held a glow from her designer picks to her nail tips. To know her was to love her. To love her is to carry her legacy.
On the morning of Wednesday, July 11, 2018, the Lord and Savior called Mother Dear home. She leaves behind: her children, Delores, Stephanie, Hazel, Earl, Joyce, Kevin, Coleridge III, Anita, Khadeem, Raymona, Rozzia, Shabazz and Christina; her
grandchildren: Robert, Adrian, Bridget, Todd, Rodney, Nicole, Rashina, Aisha, Rachee, Rita, Meyarn, Simone, Dominic, Chennee, Leroy Jr., Stephen, Addie, Daniel, Tamara, Earl Jr., Tonnisha, Coleridge IV, Asya, Coren, Paris, Morgan and Ongel; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and great-grandchildren.
Mommy will forever be missed. Remember, she lives within us all. The Lord is my shepherd.
