Biography: Donald Albert “Skip” Young, first born of the late Mary Elizabeth Sawyer and Harry Donald Young and late sister Helen, was born in Johnson City, Tennessee. He attended Langston High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1957 where he obtained the rank of E-3 aboard the U.S.S. Essex. He received a Good Conduct Medal in 1960 and was released from active duty and transferred to the Naval Reserves in 1961.
In March 1983, he married Rosetta Diana Hammonds of Chicago, Illinois. They had three children: Latisa, Angela and Donald Jr. His grandchildren are Cherokee and McKayla. Children of his previous marriage include Donald (deceased), Darren, Dereck, Wanda, Dylan, Thurston and Harry.
