Biography: Essie Mitchell, the daughter of the late David and Gracie Mitchell was born on February 15, 1928 in Greenville, Virginia.  She made her transition to her Heavenly home on January 16, 2018.
 
Mother Mitchell attended and graduated school in Richmond, Virginia.  In 1942, she migrated to New York City.  Mother Mitchell began her career as a Seamstress and worked in the garment district for many years.
 
Mother Mitchell was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was known as Evangelist Essie Mitchell.
 
Mother Elder Mitchell joined East Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop M. Philip Crichlow in 2011.  She was a Minister already upon joining the church and was preaching the Gospel to many.
 
Mother Mitchell was ordained in November of 2011 as an Elder and became a member of the Ministerial Staff.  She was appointed and was consecrated as a Church Mother and became part of the Mother’s Board, all under the leadership of her pastor, Bishop Crichlow.
 
Mother Mitchell was a woman of God that loved the Lord and loved to sing the old Hymns of Zion and preach the Gospel when she attended services.
 
Mother Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents, David and Gracie Mitchell; brothers, James Mitchell, John Henry Mitchell and Charles Mitchell; sister, Elizabeth York.
 
Mother Mitchell’s memories will remain in the hearts of her brother, Edward Mitchell and sister-in-law, Joanne Mitchell of Ohio; a niece, Virginia Mitchell of the Bronx, NY; a host of nieces, a special niece Elizabeth, nephews and many friends.
