Biography: Joan Rosalyn Proctor was born February 20, 1951 at Women’s Hospital in Harlem, New York, the eldest child of John Richard and Shirley Proctor.
She attended Julia Richman High School, and upon graduation went to work for Volume Merchandise, as a Bookkeeping Clerk. In 1969, Joan, as an accomplished vocalist & lead singer; along with four friends formed a group, and recorded a single entitled “September In The Rain”. A performance that garnered interest from the Ed Sullivan Show. During this time, Joan and her partner Kevin Drake on May 2, 1971 were blessed by the arrival of their child Tracey La Chone’ Drake, at which time she left Volume Merchandise to enter the Model Cities Program, as an NYPD Community Service Officer. Joan was loved by her co-workers and the community that she happily served. Upon the ending of that program, Joan transferred over to NYC’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development, where she worked as a Contract Specialist until her retirement in 1995. On February 1, 1980, Joan and Kevin were blessed with the arrival of Tiffany Michelle Drake, followed by the blessing of the arrival of their third child Tamara Quinelle Proctor on January 24, 1985.
Joan was pre-deceased by her father John Richard Proctor, and her sister Patricia Elizabeth Redick. It is with great sorrow that on January 28,2018, that God sent her beloved father to bring our beloved Joan home to the kingdom of God. Her huge heart, her infectious smile, and her wicked sense of humor will be missed by those fortunate enough to know her. She leaves to mourn her passing, her mother Shirley Proctor, her children Tracey, Tiffany, and Tamera. Her beloved grandchildren Tiani Drake, Tanavia Lashley, Traniece Appiah, Trammari Drake, Tijair Drake,, and her great granddaughter Tasaijaeh Starkey, her brother John Richard Proctor, her nieces Lisa Redick, Cortney Gardner, Sydney, Alexis, Danielle, and Jordan Proctor, nephews Alfred and David Redick, and Corey Proctor, and a host of great nieces, and nephews, family and friends.
