Biography: It was on the 9th of February 1945, when a beautiful baby girl was born in the tranquil settlement of Calabash Bay on the beautiful island of Andros to Mr. Cubell and Mrs. Virginia Lundy. She was named Velma Jane Lundy affectionately called (Nit) because of how incredibly small she was at birth.
Leaving home at the tender age of 10 for a better education, she attended Aquinas College in Nassau where she completed her studies. Soon after graduating she returned home, beginning her career as a telephone operator at Batelco in Fresh Creek Andros. Relocating to Nassau once again where she worked for a few short years before finally transferring to Freeport where she worked until she retired.
A mother, sister, aunt and friend to many. A caring and thoughtful individual, who was always willing to assist anyone in need if she could. She will always be remembered as a vibrant individual who loved dancing, music, fishing and also counting the planes that flew by with her friends in the comfort of her front yard,or just simply sitting on the beach enjoying the view of the beautiful water that the island had to offer. Her nieces and nephews loved visiting her in Freeport, where they spent some of their greatest summers. She was an exceptional cook, always preparing food that was made with love! Throughout the years she enjoyed weekly visits to West End, Grand Bahama, where she enjoyed some good Ole Bahamian Conch salad, fried fish with banana pancakes. She will truly be missed by many, and her memories will forever linger in our hearts where she will remain.
