Biography: “Sunshine”
Ophelia Bernice Majette “Boone” was born April 24,1937, In Southampton County, Richmond VA to the late Vanless and Eula Majette. She was the youngest of nine and has one surviving sister Eula Bynum “Aunt Rose” of Portsmouth VA, four deceased sister’s Maggie Williams, Idnell Boone, Olsea Boone and Evelyn Dell Everette, three deceased brothers Bill, Hinton, and Emerson Majette.
Ophelia “Sunshine” left the South at a young age with a child Oliva Majette and with Albert Boone “Bruh.” She and he shared the same birthday April 24th. In New York they later married and had seven children five of her children preceded her in death, Patricia and Mildred died as infants, while Olivia, Cynthia, and Al all died as adults, her two remaining children are Calvin and Sheila Boone.
Sunshine worked for the City of New York as an office Aide III for over 25 years. She went to night school to further her education while raising her five surviving children on her own. She raised four grandchildren from babies, Stephanie Redd, Shareeta Boone, Brandon Majette and Kirsten Evans, and great grand Sariah Majette. She provided them with a safe, clean, and positive home. She also cared for Al Taylor, and Aneesha Boone when needed as well, as Gabby Yisrael after school. I believed she loved care, and provided for them better than her own, she was a firm believer of keeping her family together.
After losing a lot of her vision Sunshine was diagnosed with glaucoma at a late age and declared legally blind. She retired at 55 years old and continued to care for her grands putting them through college. Towards her end Sunshine was in need of assistance due to her blindness and even still was a phenomenal strong beautiful God fearing woman who walked by faith and not by sight.
Sunshine was the Vice President of the Carol Gardens citizens. She loved to dance and cook. Her death was untimely and unexpected, she was loved and will be missed forever by us all.
Sunshine leaves behind to mourn her two children Calvin and Sheila Boone. Grand children Stephanie, Shareeta, Lil Al, Brandon, Aneesha, Kirsten, Gabriel, Great grands Sariah, Brandon Jr, Sabrina, Jaxon, Jayla and Mia, sister Eula Bynum, Host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
