Biography:
Gregory Donnell Valdez was born on November 10, 1954 to Elon Sims and Hennis Eugene Valdez in Cook County Hospital in
Chicago, Illinois. He was the fourth of seven children. His
parents, two brothers, Harold Valdez and Edwin Valdez and one sister Barbara Valdez-Parker preceded him in death.
Gregory Valdez attended Hughes High School in Manhattan. Gregory Valdez became a father at the age of 23 years old and becoming a father to his son was one of his proudest moments.
Mr.Valdez lived in New York most of his life. He then moved to Raleigh, North Carolina for several years. He moved back to New York in 2002 and in the year 2004 he met the love of his life, Helen Nichols. After establishing a beautiful connection they married on April 30, 2014.
Mr. Valdez worked various jobs until he landed a profound career in as a messenger until his retirement. Gregory enjoyed watching basketball and comedy shows. His favorite team was the Golden State Warriors. He loved spending time on the phone checking up on his family members.
He departed this earth on Monday August 8, 2022. He leaves to mourn: his wife, Helen Valdez; his son, Gregory Valdez, Jr.; stepsons: Ben and Donald; stepdaughters: Jasmine and Kimberly; five grandchildren: Jada, Sedarian, Lelani, Malani and Tyler; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Valdez; brothers: Theodore Valdez and Phillip Valdez; sisters: Brenda Valdez and Cheri Valdez; brother-in-law, Barry Parker Sr.; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.
