Ms. Ruth Woodson, born Ruth Janette Sheppard, the daughter of the late William Sheppard and Ruth Bagley was born on May 13 th , 1942, in New York City, NY at Harlem Hospital. Ruth went to Wadleigh High School for Girls, she was a known tomboy, she enjoyed roughhousing, climbing, and playing dodgeball. In the early 80’s Ruth began working as devoted home attendant, where she provided care and support to elderly, handicap and disabled men and women for 30 plus years. This was not uncommon of Ruth as she would often provide support and care to those in need. She retired at age 67.

Ruth was a God-fearing woman. She was a devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church where she served, sang, and raised her 6 children. On September 15 th , 2002, Ruth married the love of her life, Hector Lorenzo. Ruth enjoyed the rain, cooking, eating crabs, playing cards, roller coasters, bird watching, action movies, and singing Gospel music every chance she can. Ruth was best known for her outspoken and firecracker personality. She would compliment you and insult you at the same time, but this is what made her so loved in her community. She was never afraid to speak her mind. You always knew what you were going to get, and if you did not, she was not afraid to tell you.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memory, six children: David Powers, Helen Powers, Andre Woodson, Eulanda Powers, Michael Woodson, and Kizzy Brown. Nine grandchildren: Rasheen Sudler, Troy Powers, Tereek Powers, Nestle Mitchell, Alayna Powers, Jordan Woodson, Andre Woodson, Alexander Woodson, and Mariel Woodson. Five great grandchildren: Tatyana Sudler, Zahir
Sudler, Logan Powers, London Powers, and newly born Hunter Powers. Sister; Debra Pickett. Ruth was also blessed to have bonus children in Tamara Powers, Laveria Jackson, Jomo Adams, Juana “Jenny” Woodson, and Anthony Mitchell. as well as many nieces and nephews; Sean Pickett and Rodney.

Ruth transitioned to glory on September 23, 2023. She was proceeded in death by her husband: Hector Lorenzo, father: William Sheppard, Mother: Ruth Bagley, and her siblings, Betty, Irene, Marty, Ronald, Doris, Lulu, Johnnie, and Frankie.
