Biography:
Ruth Ellen Brown, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Mount Sanai Hospital in New York. She was born on May 12, 1940 in Wilmington, NC to the late Jesse Sr. and Clara Batts.
Ruth received her education in the New Hanover County school system. She relocated to New York in 1959. There she was employed with the Department of Social Services until her retirement in 2002.
Ruth was preceded in death by her late husband, James; brothers Jesse Jr., George, and Carl; sisters Jeanette, Kathleen, Elaine, and Barbara.
Ruth is survived by her children; Constance, JD (Gloria) both of Wilmington, NC; Donna of Charlotte, NC; Janice & Jeanette both of the city; sisters Dorothy Jean of Charlotte, NC and Mildred (Freddie) of Wilmington, NC.Grandchildren; Armesia, Cedric, Taurean, Jesse Jr., Eboni (Trey); 11 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren; longtime companion Eddie Jenkins and best friend Gertrude McLaughlin; a host of extended family and friends who lovingly cherish her memory.
