We come together to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman. Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Mrs. Dicy Mae Ellerbee Bradley. Dicy was born on July 23, 1940, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. Dicy was born to the late Samuel and Janette Ellerbee. On Saturday, September 9, 2023, Dicy was welcomed with open arms by many loved ones that preceded her.

Dicy spent her childhood years living in Cheraw South Carolina. She was a member Bethel Baptist Church in Cheraw, SC. She received her education at Linton School in Society Hill, SC. South Carolina is where she met married Wilson Bradley Sr.. Dicy and Wilson relocated in the 60’s to New York City with their five children. Once in New York, Dicy worked at Partners in Care until her retirement. She provided care and support to her patients and was great at it.

Over the course of her life, Dicy remained a force to be reckoned with. She marched to the sound of her own drum. Anyone who knew Dicy knew she said what she said, and she wasn’t going to say it no more. If Dicy dreamed of fish, you best to believe someone was pregnant. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Dicy during her 83 years. Dicy had many passions such as: listening to 1010 wins on the radio, playing lotto, watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and reading her newspaper and the enquirer paper. She loved fiercely and deeply, and we take comfort in knowing that Dicy is now at peace surrounded by light.

Dicy was preceded in death by her husband Wilson Bradley Sr., her siblings Clara Mae Ellerbee, Ada Ellerbee, Georgina Cox, Virginia Joyner, Josephine James, Catherine Sinclair, Samuel Ellerbee, Arthur Ellerbee, her sons, Wilson Bradley Jr., Michael Bradley Sr.

Dicy will be lovingly remembered by  her sister, Benjane Graham of Highpoint, NC, her daughters Dorothy Bradley, Mildred Bradley, Catherine Bradley of New York City, her grandchildren Jamaal Bradley, Sha’ Tasia Bradley, Chaton Bradley,Taniqua Bradley, Akim Bradley, Megan Floyd, Lamisha Bradley, Jacob Floyd, Wyleesha Bradley, Michael Bradley Jr., Kenneth Matthews, Great Grandchildren, Justin Bradley, Jada Bradley, Tyjanae Terry, Amire Bradley, Jahnasia Jennings, Jessiah Floyd, Isaiah Vanderhorst, Tyanna Terry, Taraj Vanderhorst, Paris Albino, Wilfredo Albino, Treasure Witcher, Karter Bradley, Jessica Bradley. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Reflections of Life

Louise was a loving person. Over her lifetime she has met a lot of people with whom she built great relationships. Our fondest memories are of how she always spoke what was on her mind, her humor, and unwavering support to her family and friends.

She became blind as a child for a couple of years and through the Grace of God she regained her vision. This is an example of her strength, tenacity, will, and perseverance through life. Louise's compassion and strength was remarkable.

Everyone knew Louise to be forthcoming and speak to whatever’s on her mind. She had the ability to give comfort to all she met. She kept relationships with most of her children's friends and they loved checking in with our mother to just talk about anything.

When her daughter Evelyn began calling her Lou, she was very hesitant in receiving this nickname, for she always wanted to be called Mom. She soon adapted to the name Lou and embraced it with a smile. And later she was called Grandma Girl.

Louise would visit her daughter Beverly in North Carolina and her daughter Evelyn in Virginia regularly. She would also stay in her North Carolina home she once shared with her late husband Willie Daniels. Her son Anthony, who lives in New York and who some may call a “momma’s boy,” stayed close. When our mother was unable to care for herself a couple of years ago, Anthony made sure she would not be alone and began caring for our mother and was by her side to the end.

We had an earthly angel and now have a heavenly angel. We will miss you “Mom” “Lou” “Grandma Girl” dearly.

We Love You Mom, but God loves you best!

“Keep on Keeping on!”
