Biography: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying. Neither shall there be no more pain for the former things are passed away.” Revelations 21:4

On Tuesday, August 21, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., Marie Kelly Byrd was called home to receive her reward from God. Marie was born on February 6, 1938 in Rowesville, SC. She was the ninth child of ten children (who all preceded her in death) born to the late Sam Kelly and Myrlene Raysor Kelly. Marie attended public school in Rowesville, SC. She was a seamstress at the sewing factories in Orangeburg county for most of her adult life. In her spare time, Marie’s passion was her flowers. At an early age, Marie became a member of Mays Chapel United Methodist Church, and her calling was singing. She served as president of the senior choir. She was a devoted member until her health started to decline.

In 1957, Marie was joined in holy matrimony to the late Paul Byrd, Sr. To this union, five children were born. Her only son, Paul Byrd Jr and son in-law, Robert Q. Berry Jr. preceded her in death.

If Flowers Grow in Heaven

If flowers grow in heaven,
Lord, pick a bunch for Grandma Marie.
Then place them in her loving arms,
And tell her they’re from me.

Tell her that I love and miss her,
And when she turns to smile,

Place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for a while.

Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
But there’s an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
