Biography: Rose Ardella Godfrey was born on Monday, December 23, 1946 at Harlem Hospital in New York City. Early in her life, she was sent to live with her Grandmother (Juland Godfrey) in Sellers, South Carolina until 1959 when she returned to Harlem, NY. She was the Daughter of Maeola Abrams (predeceased), S/SGT Thomas Hall (predeceased) and Stepfather Isiah Murray Mitchell
(predeceased). She was sister of Arnold Godfrey (predeceased) and Isiah Capri Abrams.

She attended Wadleigh High School, Baruch College NYC, Borough of Manhattan College and was Mensa Society Qualified (a select national group of people qualified because of their high IQ).

In 1966, she married James Arthur Mitchell (predeceased) where of that union two children, Delinda “Koko” Mitchell and
Arthura “Leenie”’ Mitchell were born. She worked at the National Urban League from 1966 to 1985, Bank Hapoalim (1985-1988), Goldman & Gladstone (1988-1991), Schlumberger Limited (1991- 2004), and Carver Federal Savings Bank (2007-
2010).

Although she retired in 2011, she worked at Melba125NYC from 2012 to 2013. She was also affiliated with the National Notary Assoc. (1980-2023) and the New York Auxiliary Police (1980-1991). She was currently writing a book (titled: She Was
Colored, a Child in the West) based on the history of the Black Cowboys as well as her life growing up in the South, creating crossword puzzles focused on African- merican history, loved Old Gunsmoke episodes and was a self-taught professional knitter weaving incredible trinkets and ensembles for family and friends Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Darrell Rogers (nephew), Eric Abrams (nephew), Garland Abrams (nephew) and Caldwell “Dan” Godfrey (uncle), The Mayo Family (Brenda, Doug, Raven & Jordan), The Fletcher Family (Gail and a host of cherished Fletcher siblings) as well as many special family & friends.
