David Jenkin

David Jenkin

12-02-1946 - 01-24-2024

Biography:

David Jenkins was born on December 2, 1946, in Berkeley County, South Carolina to proud parents George Jenkins and Ida Carr- Jenkins. David attended the local neighborhood schools in Berkeley County, South Carolina before moving to New York City.

David met his late wife Deloris in St. Stephen, SC (South Carolina), at the Dreamland Juke Joint. That special moment led to David moving to New York City in the late 1960s to marry the love of his life. David and Deloris said their vows before God, family and friends on January 17, 1970, and that union led to the marvelous commencement of “The Jenkins Family.” Together, the two would nurture and raise their legacy of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren for over [52] years.

As a young man in the late 1960s, David landed a job in construction as a Demolition Worker within the 5 boroughs of New York City. David was a loyal worker.  He went to work daily to ensure the needs of his family were met.  He worked his construction job faithfully until he retired.  David was the true definition of putting his family first. This did not stop with just his wife and children. He ensured the same nurturing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

David and his late wife Deloris introduced their family to church when their children were young.  He ensured they went to church and some of their children were baptized at Little Mt.  Bethel Baptist Church. After David retired from

Construction as a Demolition worker, he began assisting his good friend, Brother-Paul Wyche, as the Sexton for Little Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. David enjoyed assisting Brother Paul as well as helping the church family when needed.  David did such an amazing job assisting his good friend Paul, that the church offered him the Sexton position when Brother Paul journeyed on. Little Mt. Bethel Baptist Church became a second home for David, and he treated it as such. David helped to keep the church clean and well maintained until the day he was called home.

David was an awesome family leader, a strong protector, and a great Patriarch. David led by example. He was dependable, and that is something that he imparted in his family. If he said he was going to do something, he did it and with no

complaints. David loved listening to Soul music, Gospel music, playing with his grandchildren, bike riding, and quietly solving crossword puzzles during his down time. David was actively involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. David was easy-going (we’ve never seen him get upset).

David also had a great sense of humor. He brought joy and laughter to those around him; whether it was through his jokes, playful tendencies, or exuberant smile.

David was loved and respected in his community, and by his church family. David was just phenomenal all around, as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.  He touched many lives in a positive way and will be remembered by us all for his calm, kind, loving good-natured spirit.

David was called home on January 24, 2024. He is proceeded in death by his mother; Ida Carr Jenkins, father; George Jenkins, sister; Naomi and Florence Jenkins; and wife Deloris Therise-Jenkins. David leaves to mourn his life, his children, Teara Jenkins-Sharper (Jacques); David Jenkins Jr.; Jacqueline Jenkins; Tyrone Jenkins (Shanay) and Marilyn Coleman. His grandchildren Uniqua Jenkins, Latifah Slade, Nioka Jenkins, Alyssa Marrero, Ashley Jones, David Jenkins Jr.; Romeo Russell; Jaleyah Jones; Tyrone Jr. Jenkins; Tyvion Jenkins; Tyque Jenkins; and Tyler Jenkins.
