Earlean Williams Golson, affectionately known as “Sister,” was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1950, in Harlem, New York, to the late David and Clara Williams.

Education

Earlean attended Wadleigh Junior High School in Harlem and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from City College. She became a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of New York and later pursued her Master’s degree in Science. Though her ultimate career aspiration was to become a Podiatrist, her dedication to nursing spanned more than four decades.

Career

Earlean devoted over 40 years to the nursing profession, beginning her career at Harlem Hospital, the very community where she was raised. There, she played a pivotal role in establishing an Intensive Care Unit. Her commitment to care also extended into the New York City Department of Education, where she served as a school nurse at PS 175 and PS 92. As an independent contractor, she continued to provide in-home care to patients, offering not just professional expertise but deep compassion.

Family

In 1981, Earlean remarried Michael Golson. The couple welcomed their son, David Michael Golson, two years later. To know Earlean was to know her pride and joy, her beloved “Baby Boy.” She spoke of him often, with immense love and pride, never missing a chance to share his accomplishments with others. Being a mother was the role she cherished most.

Humanitarian Work

Earlean was a devoted community advocate who believed in service and education. Each year, she partnered with the Harlem YMCA to host her annual Soup and Sandwich Giveaway, providing warmth and nourishment to those in need. Every February, she organized a Black History Month program, passionately teaching local children about their rich heritage, from past to present. Her events often drew the support of elected officials, members of the 32nd Precinct, and other community leaders. Her mission was to inspire pride, connection, and knowledge within the community she so deeply loved.

Community & Memberships

Earlean was a faithful member of Metropolitan A.M.E. Church in Harlem. She also served as former President of the 136-137th Street Edgecombe Avenue Block Association, was an active member of the Harlem Hospital Committee, and led the PTA during her son’s early school years.

Personal Life

“Sister” treasured time spent with her close circle of friends, whether it was catching up over casual dinners, going on bus rides, or enjoying a trip to the casino. Known for her daily wellness calls, she kept her loved ones close and uplifted. Her family and friends were the heartbeat of her life, giving her strength and joy every single day.

In Remembrance

Earlean Williams Golson transitioned peacefully in the early hours of June 21, 2025. She is survived by her devoted son, David Michael Golson; her cherished grandchildren, David Michael Golson II and Peyton Golson; and a host of loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, David Williams; her mother, Clara Williams; and her sister, Elaine Williams.

Earlean touched countless lives with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering strength. Her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the blessing of knowing her. She will remain forever in our hearts and souls.
