On Thursday July 2, 2026 at Morris Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Bronx, New York God saw that you were getting tired and He decided to bring you home to get eternal rest.
Lawyer Simpson Jr. was born on December 17, 1943 to the late Lawyer Simpson Sr. and Muszette B. Simpson, he was the oldest of three children. He was a graduate of Westside High School in Anderson, SC in 1962. After graduation he relocated to New York City, where he worked for the New York City Housing Authority for a couple years. Then he began to work for New York City Transit Authority in 1980 and he retired as a Specialist Operator in 2008.
In 1964 Lawyer married his high school sweetheart, Carrissa M. Newell and from this marriage two daughters were born, Angela and Cassie. Although their paths eventually parted in 1991, Lawyer remained a devoted and loving father who was always dedicated to his daughters.
Lawyer loved walking in the parks, playing basketball with the guys, and spending quality time with his friends on 140th street. Lawyer would frequently on Sunday mornings read 3 newspapers, and also enjoyed anything connected to sports like baseball, football, and basketball. His main interest was politics and he can always tell you what was going on around the world. He was very well known to have debates with the family regarding politics and he was always right no matter what the family members said.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawyer and Muszette Simpson; one daughter, Angela D. Manigault; one sister, Mary Lee Simmons; and one brother, Harry A. Simpson.
Those who will continue to cherish his memory and honor his legacy include his daughter, Cassie L. Simpson-Dukes (Kevin) of Philadelphia, PA; his son-in-law, Glenn L. Manigault of Fairfield, CT; his stepsister, Diane Simpson of NYC; two granddaughters, LeeAngele Manigault of North Branford, CT, and Carrissa Dukes of Philadelphia, PA; three grandsons, Kevin Dukes Jr. (Armani) of Philadelphia, PA, Glenn L. Manigault III of Fairfield, CT, and Sterling Manigault of Fairfield, CT; two nieces, Mattie Simpson (John) of Spartanburg, SC, and Regina Simmons of Anderson, SC; three great-nephews, Greg Simpson of Flint, MI, Kevin Simpson of Washington, DC, and Chris Simpson of Los Angeles, CA; two great-nieces, Mary Wanee Simpson of Las Vegas, NV, and Quintessa Sullivan of Anderson, SC; along with many cherished family members and loving friends who will remember him with love
