Biography: Estell Black was born on November 14,1940 in Greensville County, Virginia to the late John W. Butts, Sr. and Elizabeth Jackson. Estell departed this life on April 20, 2019 at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Estell accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Little Shiloh Baptist Church in Emporia Virginia. After relocating to New York Estell joined The Concord Baptist Church of Christ in 1979.
Estell belonged to two organizations, they are the Willing Worker’s Ministries and New Life Style Fellowship at the Concord Baptist Church of Christ.
Estell married the late Marvin Black on July 3, 1965. Estell also was proceeded in life by two (2) sisters Dorothy O'Nery of Jarratt Virginia and Gladys Simmons of Baltimore, Maryland. One (1) brother Thomas Butts of Baltimore, Maryland.
Estell retired from Saint Mary’s Hospital in Brooklyn, New York on November 15, 2003 as a Nurse Assistan.
Estell leaves to honor and cherish her memories: two (2) daughters, Angela D. Thorne of Richmond and Virginia and Tracy Black of Brooklyn, New York; One (1) son, Gregory A. Butts of Jarratt, Virginia; One (1) sister, Mary Louise McDougle (Brother-in-law Earl) of Brooklyn, New York; Two (2) brothers, Jessie W. Butts of Baltimore, Maryland and John W. Butts, Jr. of Petersburg, Virginia; Three (3) grandchildren, Selena L. Coles (Derrick) of Tallahassee, Florida, Ja'Von J. Lane of Richmond, Virginia and Shantel O. Butts of Jarratt, Virginia; Seven (7) great-grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, co-workers, friends and a devoted friend.
