Exie Malika Smith was the elder child of Calvin and L. Della Johnson. She began her journey on Sunday, May 2, 1976 at 9:23pm. On December 15, 2019, she was admitted to Sutter Health Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, CA and placed on life support. Her condition was declared unrecoverable and she transitioned on December 19, 2019.
She graduated from her elementary schooling at St. Catherine of Sienna, New York, NY with numerous honors and was accepted at Bronx High School of Science, Bronx, NY but graduated from Theodore Roosevelt, Bronx, NY. She pursued higher educational goals and completed this with a degree from Mercy College, Bronx, NY.
First Union Baptist blessed her at age 5, however, she continued her Christian teachings at the nearby church, United Methodist and others. Great Adventure in New Jersey was her birthday celebration choice each year during her younger years. She was a chapter member of the Girl Scouts of America with the delicious cookies the family and friends purchased each year from her. She enjoyed family holiday gatherings, fishing with her father, a live Michael Jackson concert and her employment at Symphony Space, New York, NY. Also, she was an excellent “paper girl” in her 200 plus apartment building. She became a second mother to her younger brother during his elementary years of school.
Later, a marriage and two children became her life but after her divorce she moved to the area of her Connecticut employer. Later, she moved to California for employment there. She joined the firm of Albourne America LLC and continued her employment there as an Account Manager until her transition. Her father passed in 2009. Paternal and maternal grandparents are also deceased. This transition left daughter, Jenay Smith, Charlotte, NC; and son, Andrew Smith, Charlotte, NC ; her mother, L. Della Johnson, Bronx, NY; brother, Lamar Johnson, Bronx, NY; half-brother, Derrick Johnson (Dorothy), Miami, FL; Aija Allen Hayward, CA numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins are also left to mourn. With only memories of her beautiful life.
