Biography: Janet Haughton was born in Wilmington Delaware on December 25, 1942 to the late LC Daniels & Ida Gem Daniels Davis. Janet grew up in Delaware and attended public school graduating top in her class. Upon graduation, Janet relocated to New York City where she attended Hunter College receiving her bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
Janet worked for the New York Department of Social Services for over 26 years until she had to leave for health reasons.
Janet met the love of her life Luis “Red” Gray, Janet and Red enjoyed good music but their true pleasure was vacationing, they traveled the world, sharing story after story of their experiences.
Janet enjoyed helping people and relished her family, she was the matriarch of the family sharing her wisdom with everyone she met.
Janet was always very competitive, for many years she was a semi pro bowler obtaining many trophies and earnings. She especially loved game night with family and friends where her competitive nature was unforgettable.
In 1978, Janet and Red gave birth to their bundle of joy, son Jevon. Jevon remained by his mother’s side until her passing.
Janet was preceded in death by her companion Louis “Red” Gray, her father LC Daniels, mother Ida Gem Davis, sisters Kristen Williams and Nettora Christopher, brother Garrett Daniels.
She is survived and will be lovingly missed by her son Jevon Haughton of New York NY, sister Kimberly Davis Glover (Wendell) of Bear DE, nieces Shiela Robinson of New York NY, Vanessa Niles (Duke) of NV, Soroya Bryant (Matthew) of GA, Vertis Terry of Wilmington DE, Khi Nasi of PA, Douglas James (Barbara) of GA, Tonia Davis of New Castle DE and Lifelong sister friend Evelyn Ward of Philadelphia, PA as well as a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
