Biography: Hattie Pearl Lewis was their last daughter born in South Carolina to the parents of Eugene and Hattie Lewis on July 8, 1925.
Hattie and her siblings were raised by her parents in the South Carolina. All her of sibling migrated to the North, with the exception on one son who stayed in the South. Hattie came to New York City to pursue her dreams. She lived in Harlem, New York and loved to go dancing, attend shows and family events. She raised four children in New York and her oldest daughter was raised in South Carolina by her grandparents.
Hattie learned to drive by taking lessons with her son Ronnie. After learning, she purchased several cars with a special love for her “Oldsmobile 88 ”. She loved going to the casino playing the slots with her son, Ronnie. She enjoyed being a grandmother and spending time with all of them.
Hattie retired from Harper Publishing Company in the mid 80’s. Upon retirement, she took all her children and grandchildren to Disney World for a two week vacation.
Hattie was an active member of her church until she became a resident of Hebrew Home Nursing in August 2009. She was a resident of Hebrew Nursing Home until her demise.
Hattie P. Rowe is survived by: her brother, Larry Lewis; son, Ronald Goss; daughters: Betty Ann Johnson, Rena Hart and Janet Thomas; grandchildren: Natasha, Ashante, Ronnie Jr., Devin, Caretta, Derrick, Felicia, Darryl, Tyree, Danielle, Nicole and Clemencia; twelve great-grandchildren and great-grandsons; great great-granddaughter, Love Pinto; and a host of nieces and nephews.Hattie will reunited with her Husband, James C. Rowe at Calverton Cemetery.
