Biography: On May 5, 1956, Margaret was born the third child and first girl was a gift to the late Willie Baker Johnson and the late Susie Mae Samuels Johnson-Sanders in Foreston, South Carolina.
After the passing of her father, Margaret joined her mother and stepfather Daniel Sanders in New York City. It was there that she became a cook, big sister, friend to many, a wife, a mother and most of all a servant of God.
Margaret was one of the best cooks in New York. She learned the craft from watching her mother and grandmother as a child. People would come from all over to taste her food. Blueberry dumplings and cheesecake were a few of the great delights that she made. Cooking for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years was when she would really show off.
Margaret took on the task to help care for her younger siblings. They sang together as well. At times she took them to the movies, parks and other various outings. In addition to assisting her mother with caring for her siblings, Margaret worked and went to school. College, would meet her later.
Communication was yet another talent that Margaret possessed. Her personality was very attractive due to her ability to strike up a conversation with anyone at any given time or place. She loved to walk and on her journey’s she made friends and associates along the way.
Her best friend since adolescence, Lana Turner treasured their friendship so much that she came up from Virginia to sit with Margaret in her last days.
On October 21, 1981 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, she married the love of her life, Michael Kenneth Lee Brown, Sr, a United States Army Sergeant with whom she traveled many places with. From this union, she gave birth to three children. Sandra Brown, her first child, preceded her in passing.
Margaret loved her children and was a stay-at-home mother. She took part in the Parent Teacher Association when her children were old enough to attend school. Margaret began working at a variety of daycare centers including the YMCA and an OASIS certified center Narco-Freeman, where she became like a surrogate mother to many. She loved and cared for them all as if they were her own.
The schools Margaret attended were: Manning Grade School in South Carolina, PS 123 Mahalia Jackson School in Harlem, New York and IS 10 High School in New York. When her children were approaching the end of their education, Margaret decided to go to college. She attended Rosa Parks College of New Rochelle where she proudly received her Baccalaureate Degree in Liberal Arts.
Though Margaret was a brief member of Kelly Temple COGIC she always oved and never stopped loving the Lord. The last recollection of Margaret’s actions was a praise to God that describes an admirable song, “If I couldn't say a word, I’d just wave my hand”.
We will love, miss and cherish the good that Margaret brought into our lives. She leaves to mourn in her passing and celebrate her life lived: her husband Michael Kenneth Lee Brown, Sr.; her two sons: Michael Kenneth Lee Brown, Jr. and Bryant Jamal Brown; siblings: Willie Gene (Mary) Johnson, (late) James Allen (Juanita: Annette) Johnson, Corene (Tyrone) Wilson, Danny Saunders, Gwendolyn (Michael) Williams and Andrea Sanders; as well as her in-laws, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
