Biography: Francine Pressley Sams Extraordinaire was the first born to the late Joseph and Jannie Pressley on October 3, 1923 in Nesmith, South Carolina. Her parents preceded her in death at an early age and she was reared by her Aunt Pet for a short time and then relocated to New York where she lived with her Aunt Lilly. Her Uncle, George Washington Pressley, Sr. and Aunt Pansy Cooper Pressley raised Francine as their daughter from the age of 8.
She gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age and was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Nesmith, South Carolina.
Francine graduated from Wadleigh High School in 1949 and attended South Carolina State College. She visited New York City and decided to stay; beginning her journey as an entrepreneur for Fuller Products.
In 1963 she met and married the LOVE of her life, the late Tom Sams Jr. and from this union Tomasina aka Peaches was born. She was a “Movement by herself, but a Force when they’re Together” – venturing into many small businesses.
Francine was employed with the City of New York – Children’s Center and the Human Resources Administration - Protective Services for Adults while attending Adelphi University receiving her BS in Social Welfare and her Masters of Social Work in 1984. She retired after 25 years of service.
Retirement was short lived for she needed to stay busy, for, idleness was not her style. Her favorite past time was getting her hustle on and visiting the bright lights of Atlantic City and neighboring casinos. Everyone knows if she could make a dollar it would be done. In recent years, she was known for selling belts, plants, T-shirts, hats, etc. in Harlem. Francine said interacting with people keeps you young and vibrant. She loved people and would give you the shirt off her back, she would say do for folks while they are alive, anyone can put flowers on your grave - folk need to know you care while they are living. Francine was a fun loving, peaceful, hospitable lady with a sense of humor. She was the ultimate caretaker, caring for family members when they became ill. Our Matriarch….
Francine’s siblings: Edrina Pressley, Billy Pressley, Alex Pressley Jr., Fannie Ruth Pressley, Evernell Wilson, Calvin O. Pressley and Lois Sims preceded her in death. She loved them DEARLY.
Francine leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter Peaches who she cherished beyond the skies, her grandnephew, Darsha who she helped raise, granddaughter Keyana Pansy, grandson Vincent Jr. whom she doted over, Bonus grandchildren, Lakeisha, Jassiah and Mike Jr., and Bonus grandnephew, Lil James, brothers George Pressley Jr., Alex Bernard Pressley (Shirley),
Raymond Pressley (Deborah), and sister, Pansy Steele, her Aunt Ernestine Morris, two sisters in laws, Iona Pressley, Jerri Sams. Godchildren Rosa Grahm, and Winfred Pressley, nephews, Delano, Lawrence, Arnold, Nathaniel Butch (Henrietta), Brian (Marella), Tyrrik, Todd (Mickey), Terry (Natiki), nieces, Barbara Jean (David), Evelyn, Elaine, Gwendolyn, Theresia (Jerome), Louise, Patricia (Robert), Dorothea, Gale, Sandra, Sharon, Pamela (Ron), April (Mark), Ramona (Lance), grandnephews and nieces, Tahisi, Rasheen, Edward, Shanika, Peggy, Charles (Karisma), Andre, De’andre, Theresia, Yvette(Brian), Precious, Gregory, Christian, Brian, Jasmine, Jameelah, George, Mercedes, Portia, Jarred, Peyton, Jessica, Nailah, Mark, Malachi, Marley and a host of great grandnephews and nieces, cousins, a confidant, Tommie Collins and special friend Robin JB Gadson.
