Biography: Sylvester Moore was born on December 11, 1930 in Chocowinity, North Carolina to the proud parents of James and Minnie Moore. He was one of three children who preceded him in death. Sylvester attended Jones High School in Washington, North Carolina. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Military on January 7, 1953, completed his basic training and was inducted in the U.S. Army.
 
Sylvester later met and married Annie Rea also known as “Dorothy” in 1954. This union produced seven children: Asonja D. Moore, Cynthia Stewart (Michael), Sylvia Moore, Charles G. Moore, James S. Moore (Hope), Frederick L. Moore (Trisma), Carnelia A. Daniels-Alston (Albert).
 
Sylvester was stationed in Germany and then Korea during war time. He served thirteen years in the military and received an honorable discharge.
 
After his discharge from the army, Sylvester went to work as an auto mechanic at A&D Gas Station on Queens Boulevard until the station was sold.
 
In December 1978 he met and married Emerald Thompson who was the love of his life. Sylvester was a kind and quiet natured person. He loved to work. As an auto mechanic he met and helped many people whose car he fixed. This was his joy. He loved sports, especially the New York Mets. Bowling was also one of his favorite sports and received many trophies and accolades, until he broke his bowling finger and was forced to retire. He was also a member of the King Solomon 71 International Masons of New York City.
 
In Emerald’s own words: “Sylvester was a very loving, good supportive husband to me for 42 years, and his stepson Steven, We were there for each other.Sylvester knew I loved my church and was always very supportive of my attending. I want to thank God for the time that we had together. But there comes a time when we have to leave and say goodbye. Tuesday, September 17, 2019 was his time.”
 
Sylvester is survived by: his wife Emerald Moore; one stepson, Steven Thompson; seven children by his previous marriage: Asonja D. Moore, Cynthia Stewart (Michael), Sylvia Moore, Charles G. Moore, James S. Moore (Hope), Frederick L. Moore (Trisma), Shelia C. Moore, Zina T. Daniels (Divine) and Carnelia A. Daniels-Alston (Albert); eighteen grandchildren and a host of
relatives and friends. He will be forever in our hearts.
